They designed the hotel not to fit the town at the time but to be a symbol of what they thought Great Falls could grow to be in the future.
According to historicmt.org the building cost $400,000 to build and furnish. With 5 stories and 150 rooms it was and remains an iconic landmark in Great Falls.
The Great Falls History Museum On The Rainbow
The Great Falls History Museum had a collection of letters and photos donated to the museum that have been adapted to a blog post of what life was like to live and work in the Rainbow Hotel in the 1920's.
The story follows the family of A.J. Breitenstein who was the manager of the hotel in 1918. You can find the full posting at the museums website here.
Our very own radio stations used to be a part of this buildings history as well when the stations were located in the second floor of the Rainbow for over 2 decades until 2016 when we moved to our current location.
