Some people in Montana love to be able to provide meat on the table for their families by going out and getting the meat themselves. With the rising costs of inflation the cost of burger and other groceries have sky rocketed and become out of control so any chance that we have to trim the grocery bill, Montanans are going to take that chance.
Of course with most hunting there are charges that come into play including licensing, gear/supplies, and any processing that you cannot do yourself. So is it really cheaper to get your own turkey or to buy at the store?

This Thanksgiving you might be wanting to spend as little as possible and maybe that includes going out and getting your own wild turkey for the Thanksgiving table this year. While there are only some regions you can hunt a turkey in, as long as you have the correct licensing you CAN shoot and kill your own turkey for dinner.

Which Is Cheaper? Store Or Hunting
According to the Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks website, there are some regions that only have specific times that a turkey can be hunted so if you plan to you need to do extensive research to make sure you are in the correct area, with the correct license, at the correct time of year. All of these criteria met then yes you absolutely can get your own turkey for Thanksgiving dinner.
With the base hunting license, conservation license, upland game bird license, and turkey license it ads up to $32. You could probably easily get a turkey at the grocery store for less than that but what is the fun in that?
