Peaches Recalled Nationwide Over Potential Listeria Contamination
A California company has recalled peaches that were shipped to supermarkets across the country over the possibility they may be contaminated with listeria.
What peaches are being recalled?
According to the recall notice on the Food and Drug Administration website, the recall was issued by Moonlight Companies, after listeria was detected at their packing facility.
The peaches were shipped and sold nationwide between mid-September and the end of October. They were sold either as individual whole peaches or in multi-packs.
Most of the peaches were sold under the Moonlight brand, but some were sold under the Kroger brand at stores like Smith's.
What do I do?
Check your fridge. Compare your peaches with the lists of UPC codes, lot codes and sample label information found at the FDA website linked above.
Second, if you do have the recalled peaches, don't eat them. Throw them out.
If you got rid of all the labels and stickers already and have no idea if they're the recalled peaches, I reccommend you don't take the chance, throw them out. Yes, it's a waste of food and money, but listeriosis is worse. Even if you're pretty healthy, you don't want to take chances with listeria. Who in their right mind would want fever, abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea?
How big is the recall?
There aren't any hard numbers at the moment, but we're talking about produce shipped to stores nationwide, so it isn't a small thing.
Thankfully, so far there haven't been any sicknesses reported in connection with the recalled peaches.
