July the school board met to discuss the feasibility of adding baseball to the sports program for Great Falls but no official decision had been made until last night where they unanimously agreed to add baseball as an official sport for Great Falls high schools.
The update from the Electric discusses the financial impact per school which ended up adding up to about $20,000 per school to start but the board feels confident they can get the funds once they have a start date which at this time is Spring 2026.
"Adding baseball to the GFPS spring sports roster will have one-time start-up costs of about $20,000 per high school."
Start up costs per school
- uniforms estimated $8,000
- equipment and gear estimated $8,000
- miscellaneous costs estimated $4,000
Annual expenses per school that will still be needed
- coaching salaries - one head coach and three assistants
- transportation
- field rental
- umpire fees
- gate workers
As a high school mom I have been waiting so patiently for them to officially make baseball a sport but can see how the logistics have held things up.
