Next week, there will be a meeting of the Great Falls Zoning Commission over the possibility of a new structure being built in Dudley Anderson Park.

For those who don't recognize the name off-hand, it's the park next to the C.M. Russell Post office on Tenth Avenue South.  It has the large water tower in the center along with the Water Tower Swimming Pool, which sadly, never opened this summer due to a lack of lifeguards and staff.  But I digress.

Who wants to build something in Dudley Anderson Park?

According to the posted notice, Verizon is looking to put in a "concealed telecommunications facility" in the north side of Dudley Anderson Park.

If you think that sounds a bit vague, you aren't alone.  Given it's Verizon we're talking about, a cell tower would make a certain amount of sense.  Don't quote me on that, though.  If you want to know for sure, attend the meeting.

What do they mean by "concealed telecommunications facility"?

By "concealed", the intent will be to make whatever structure it is blend in and not be an huge eyesore.  That can mean anything from building whatever it is underground (which obviously wouldn't make sense if it's a tower) to attaching it to another structure in the park to making it look like a tree or something.  Really, it depends on what it is they want to build.

The meeting to discuss this is open to the public and will be held Tuesday, September 23rd at 3:00pm at the Commission Chambers, which is Room 206 of the Civic Center.
