BetMGM Survey on American Attitudes on Christmas
The great holiday debates just keep coming. Now that Thanksgiving is over, it's time to turn our attention to one of December's big holidays.
Some of you may remember talking about your must have Thanksgiving side dish last month. Well, there's a new survey out, from BetMGM of all places, looking into how Americans view and approach Christmas, and some of the results are a little surprising.
The tree:
1 in 5 Americans have their Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving. Are they taking their cues from the stores?
Just under half take their tree down early, before Twelfth Night. My family is usually on the side of taking it down early because otherwise we'll forget about it and leave it up WAY too long. Case in point, when I was a kid, we once left the tree up until *cough* April *cough*. Why yes, it was artificial.
Gifts:
Only 12% of participants said presents, either giving or receiving them, is their favorite part of the season. Obviously, no little kids took part in this survey.
Re-gifting is now considered acceptable, with 70% saying there's nothing wrong with it. But will they still feel that way when it's their present that is re-gifted?
The most unwanted gifts:
#3. Socks. Kinda says it all right there, don't you think?
#2. Clothing the receiver didn't choose. There comes a point in everyone's life where they stop liking being dressed in someone else's taste in clothes or what they think is your taste.
#1. Self-help books. I totally get why this is the gift people want to get the least. "Merry Christmas, we think you have personal problems you need to address."
