What’s Your Must-Have Turkey Day Dish?
With Thanksgiving fast approaching, people are making the big decisions: what's going to be on the menu and who's bringing what.
So what's the one dish that you just have to have or something isn't right?
Main course
Is it the turkey you crave? Is it not Turkey Day without, well... turkey? Does it need to be cooked a specific way?
I'll admit, my family likes to experiment with the bird. I can't recall the last time it was cooked the same way two years in a row. Every year, my mom and lately, my sister, will start going through cooking shows, magazines and cookbooks looking for a new recipe to try. Some have been great (though not enough to merit a repeat, it appears) and some were 'meh'.
Who cares about the turkey? I want the sides!
Fair enough. Good sides can be better than the main course. I get that.
And you aren't alone in feeling that way. Campbell's recently did their annual State of the Sides survey, and according to that, 63% of Americans prefer side dishes over the turkey. In fact, just under half would be fine ditching the bird and having nothing but sides.
So if you are among the number that prefer sides to the bird, what dish do you crave?
Stuffing? In Campbell's survey, 42 states, including Montana, chose stuffing as the top side dish for Thanksgiving.
Mashed potatoes came in second place, followed by sweet potatoes, mac & cheese, and green been casserole.
What about cranberry sauce? I know people who just have to have cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving, even if they can't stand it any other time. And they wanted it out of the can, too, saying it just wasn't the same if it didn't still have the shape of the can. Weirdos. (Kidding)
