The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for Anker Power Banks due a risk of the battery overheating, which could lead to fires, burns, and damage to devices, people, and property.

What Anker devices have been recalled?

The recall covers five different models of power banks, which provide the ability to recharge electronic devices like cellphones and tablets when an outlet isn't available.

The devices were sold in numerous locations (Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) from August 2023 until June 2025, and it's estimated that just under a half-million such devices were sold in that time frame, all of which are subject to the recall.

What do I do if I have one of these?

According to the recall notice, anyone with one of the devices needs to stop using it immediately.  Otherwise, there is a risk of the lithium-ion batteries inside overheating and catching fire.

The notice goes on to stress that if you have one of the recalled power banks, do NOT throw it in the trash or recycle it.  Recalled lithium-ion batteries require special handling, to avoid the whole "bursting into flame" thing.

The manufacturer has set up a website for the recalled products.  If you have one of the power banks, you can go there to verify that it is under the recall notice and get further instructions on what to do

Has anyone been hurt by these?

So far, there have been over thirty reports of fires and / or explosions, four burns, and one incident of property damage connected to this recall.

So if you have any of these devices, please check to see if they're affected by the recall.

Cast iron is an easy one to remember to not put in the dishwasher. But what about these other items? How often have you run these in the machine instead of running a sink of soapy water and doing them by hand.
