What’s The Most Montanan Thing To Collect As A Hobby?
As a lapsed Lego fan, I was excited to hear about Bricks and Minifigs opening soon (according to the store's Facebook page, the grand opening is October 11) here in Great Falls, and it got me thinking about the various hobbies I've had over the years.
I was a collector as a kid. I'd start collecting things, get to a certain point, then get tired of it and move on when something else caught my eye. Over the years, I collected rocks, comic books, trading cards, toy cars, coins, stamps, belt buckles, and yes, Lego sets. I even still have some of them.
There was also a brief and disastrous time when I tried my hand at building model cars. It... didn't go very well. Maybe now that I have a steadier hand, more patience, and a clue what I'm doing, I might try again. Or I might not. (Don't look at me like that. Hobbies are expensive!)
Where was I? Right.
Here's what I was trying (and failing miserably) to get at. What is the most Montanan thing to collect as a hobby? I mean, when you think "hobbies and interests" and "Montana", most people go straight to outdoor recreation, and for good reason. The outdoors is a significant part of our culture. But that's not what I'm talking about.
I'm talking about what we, as Montanans, consider to be the most Montanan collection hobby. My grandfather had a collection of antique rifles and farm equipment, most of which, admittedly, didn't work.
So what did / do you collect as a hobby? Is there a new hobby you've always wanted to pick up or an old one you want to get back into?
