Right now, I'm torn between writing this article and ordering a Christmas tree. Why would I order a tree at work? Tariffs, baby. Tariffs.

Is This The Year Of The Real Christmas Tree In Montana?

I'm an artificial tree person.

Don't get me wrong, real Christmas trees have a great appeal. The smell alone makes me feel all cozy inside. I'm just one of these yahoos that can't go to a tree lot without wondering how long it took that tree to grow to 7 feet just to be killed, decorated and it's dead body is displayed for a month or so before its turned into compost.

According to Southern Living, 84 percent of Christmas tree farmers across the United States don't expect to raise their prices much from last year.

Artificial Trees And Other Decorations Are Expected To Raise In Price

Most Christmas decorations are made OUTSIDE the USA. In fact, many come from China, Mexico and the European Union.  According to Yahoo!:

  • 87% of Christmas Trees are made in China
  • Less Artificial Tree imports may lead to a tree shortage
  • National Tree Company has raised prices by 10%, some companies are expected to raise prices by 20%
  • Lights are expected to rise by, AT LEAST, 63%

Other decorations like ornaments, wreaths, and other Christmas decor is expected to rise as well.

Not As Many Holiday Decorations Will Be Available This Year

Imports of holiday decor is down by 58%. Orders for holiday decorations usually happen in August, and it's being reported that that's when businesses pulled back on the stock they usually order. Imports in America were down by 70% in September.

Experts Say Buy Before Black Friday To Save Money

Apparently, Americans buy the most Christmas decorations, trees and stuff and things on Black Friday. Experts expect prices to be much higher that day, and throughout the season.

Whatever you choose, do it quickly to save. My new fake tree should be here Tuesday.
