Watch Out Harley Owners, New Recall Includes Montana

As a former motorcycle owner, I always seemed to be checking my bike for any little problem that might lead to a bigger one while out cruising.  One of those checks always involved the wiring.

The bane of a rider is the wiring, at least in my limited experience.  Especially if you are using aftermarket parts.  But this new recall is straight from the factory of Harley Davidson, and it could leave you stranded on the side of the road if not fixed.

NHTSA Issues Alert Involving Voluntary Recall from Manufacturer

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA)  issued the alert for Harley-Davidson Motor Company, who are voluntarily recalling certain motorcycle models due to an electrical issue.

The recall alert states that "the voltage regulator output wire may rub on the front corner of the crankcase, exposing the wire and causing an electrical short circuit. A short can result in a loss of electrical power and drive power."

Here's How to Check Your Motorcycle in Montana

The recall issued is for the following motorcycles from Harley Davidson:

• Certain 2024 FLHX, FLHXSE, FLTRX, FLTRXSE, and FLTRXSTSE motorcycles.

According to the NHTSA website, owners can head to a dealership for a fix.  "Dealers will inspect and as necessary, repair the voltage regulator output wire harness, and install a secondary retention strap, free of charge."

Owners were sent notification the last week of September 2024.  If you haven't received one, contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0186.  You can also enter your VIN through the NHTSA website here to find out if your specific motorcycle is affected.
