Great Falls Symphony Has New Music Director for Upcoming Season

When it comes to the Great Falls Symphony in the Electric City, most of my interactions have come when they have joined an artist on tour, generally during the Montana State Fair night shows.  And it was generally a rock show if memory serves.

Ok, ok.  Maybe not quite that extreme at the Pacific Steel and Recycling Arena, but I should probably become a bit more cultured and actually take in a symphony performance during the newly announced upcoming season in Great Falls.  Especially with the just announced music director sporting some big-name credentials behind him.

Great Falls Symphony Has New Music Director for Upcoming Season

For the past 2 years, the symphony has been searching for a new director.  Finally, after over 200 applications, a decision was made at the end of May 2026 by the board.  In doing so, they introduced Robert Kahn "as the next chapter in the history of the Great Falls Symphony".

As part of the official announcement, the symphony welcomed Maestro Kahn and said, "we look forward to all that lies ahead under his leadership."  Great Falls Symphony also thanked ticket holders, saying "we can’t wait for you to experience his first season with the Great Falls Symphony."

Kahn Felt an Immediate Connection to the Symphony and to Great Falls

The announcement also included words to the symphony, patrons and to the citizens of Great Falls.  "I’m incredibly honored and excited to join the Great Falls Symphony. From the very first rehearsal, I felt an immediate connection to the musicians, the staff, and the wider community. Great Falls is a special place where music and community are deeply valued. I can’t wait to become part of it" the Maestro said.

Kahn has an impressive resume, including a Professional Studies Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Mannes School of Music and a Double Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Clarinet from The Johns Hopkins University and Peabody Conservatory.  He was also recently appointed to the 2026-27 Assistant Conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  You can learn more about the symphony and Maestro Kahn here.
