National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Details

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Montana is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration to support National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 27.

The biannual event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at sites across Montana. 

The goal of this event is to get rid of prescription drugs in homes and mitigate the harm that expired unused, or unwanted prescription drugs may cause.

According to the DEA, the rate of prescription drug abuse in the United States is alarmingly high, and many of the cases are accidental poisonings and overdoses from these drugs.

Numerous sheriff's offices, police departments, and federal agencies across Montana are participating in Take Back Day.

Prior Prescription Drug Take Back Events 

During the October 2023 event, Montanans turned in 1,109 pounds of prescription drugs at 21 collection sites.

Nineteen law enforcement agencies participated. The total all-time weight collected in Montana is 54,554 pounds.

Year-Round Prescription Drug Take Back

Prescription drugs can be disposed of daily at any of the 11,000 authorized collectors.
