There are many good reasons to move to Montana, right? People come for the views, the freedom, and of course, fresh food that only Montana farmers and ranchers can deliver.

Now, there's another possible reason that people might consider moving to Montana... especially if they're not a fan of bugs.

Do Bugs Like To Call Montana "Home?"

I recently shared a story about my love for Montana in nineteen photos that I've taken since arriving back in mid-August. The story sparked a conversation with some family back in Texas when I was asked:

"Are there a lot of bugs to deal with in Montana?"

But, being the person I am and working in media, I started to question it a little bit. Is Montana more "bug-free" than other states?

How "Bug-Free" Is Montana Compared To Other States?

I'll be the first to admit that I cannot stand flies, I absolutely despise them and have had my fair share of encounters with them since being in Montana. But, like anywhere else, I just assumed that's normal. Is it annoying? Sure, but it's not the worst thing in the world.

So, when I did some research and found that Montana was, in fact, one of the most bug-free states, I was pretty surprised.

According to the company MosuitoNix, Montana is one of eight of states named the "Safest From Bugs." Other states included Wyoming, Alaska, Vermont, North Dakota, South Dakota, Maine, and Rhode Island.

Another source of data comes from Native Pest Management, whose data revealed that Montana is the fifth best state for people who don't want to be around bugs.

Do You Agree With These Reports?

What do YOU think about Montana being recognized as one of the most "bug-free" states? Do you agree or do you have a story or photo that says otherwise? I would love to hear about it (or see it) HERE.

According to the USDA, Montana could potentially be a good home for these invasive insects. If their populations get out of control, it could mean devastation for some agricultural industries.
