It's really no secret how much I support our law enforcement and first responders. I've talked about it on several occasions, highlighted what they do for us in cases shared with the public, etc.
Now, it's time to celebrate those who keep our furry friends and animals of the community safe.
Great Falls Police Department Salutes Animal Control Officers
Great Falls police recently shared a post highlighting the work of Animal Control Officers Becker and Edgemon, who GFPD says "have handled 542 calls, so far this year."
I had to read that twice: those numbers are not from last year, just this year.

At the time of his writing, we're in the 107th day of the year. That means these two ACOs have responded to an average of over 5 calls a day, every single day since the start of 2026, or over 135 calls a month if you count the month of April.
Great Falls PD says these reports include calls for animals at large, aggressive animals, complaints, contained animals, deceased animals, phone calls, and welfare checks.
In this post, they also shared some of the incredible and shocking calls they have responded to. Based on what I've seen, this job isn't for the weak!

Today, we're looking at 18 wild and unpredictable calls our incredible Animal Control Officers have responded to.

When I read through these, I was surprised at how many situations I never even considered as being something ACOs have to deal with. Like what happens to pets when their owner(s) pass away? Or how about the more uncommon animals these officers respond to?
Like our other first responders, they never know what kind of situation they could be going into.
