If You See This New Color on Weather Maps in Montana, Stay Inside
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and CDC Roll Out New Weather Map
In Montana, we are no strangers to extreme weather conditions.
Everything from tornadoes, flash floods, blizzards, and more can and has happened here in Montana.

This Summer Could Be A Record Breaker In Montana
With summer right around the corner, we here in Montana usually only have to worry about the air quality due to smoke when it comes to weather warnings during the summer.
However, the last few years have seen temperatures increase, and last year was the hottest on record, according to NOAA.
That's why NOAA has teamed up with the CDC to let people know to stay safe when we see the temperatures reaching into those triple digits.

New HeatRisk Map Add Magenta Color
When looking at a map, most people assume that the color red would indicate an extreme weather situation.
With this new HeatRisk map, the color magenta has been added to represent extreme temperatures:
This level of rare and/or long-duration extreme heat with little to no overnight relief affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts likely in most health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure.
Hopefully, we here in Montana won't see that color anytime soon, but if we do, make sure to stay cool by keeping you, your family, and your pets inside, along with staying hydrated.
