I recently asked what the point of Neighborhood Facebook Groups were. I got a few answers but the one that made me pause was the one I got in a private message.

They messaged me to tell me that they are in a private group, one that lets people in the neighborhood know of sexual or violent offenders in their neighborhood. At first, I thought "Again this just seems like nosy busybody people." It did however make me wonder, well maybe it is something I should look up.

The state of Montana has a registry that is updated quite regularly. In fact, it was just updated as of the day I wrote this article. People convicted of sexual or violent offenses are required to register with local law enforcement which then the public can access for their safety.

I can see why this person did not want to post their response on a public post. In that same vein I'm not going to dox the people I found on the list next to me, or myself by telling you where I live, so don't bother asking.

The people next to me are all level 0, which for the most part means they are not likely to be repeat offenders.  That actually is a relief, but it has made me a bit more hyper aware at the same time.
