When you hear there's a heavy metal festival happening in Montana, mental health probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind.

But one Montana festival is hoping to change that.

"Fire in the Mountains", which is returning for its second festival on the Blackfeet Reservation, is bringing together metal fans from all over the world while also putting a major focus on mental health and healing.

The festival has partnered with Firekeeper Alliance, an organization dedicated to supporting mental health initiatives in Indigenous communities. Together, they're hoping to encourage honest conversations about grief, trauma, and emotional well-being.

The event has even caught the attention of SPIN Magazine, which reported that organizers struggled to find a permanent home for the festival before the Blackfeet Nation invited them to bring it to Montana.

For Firekeeper Alliance founder and director Charlie Speicher, the partnership makes perfect sense.

As conversations around mental health continue to grow across the country, this festival is a reminder that healing doesn't always look the same for everyone.

Sometimes it's talking with a friend. Sometimes it's getting outside and spending time in nature. And sometimes it's standing shoulder to shoulder with thousands of other people, finding comfort in music and realizing you aren't alone.
