Public Restrooms On Road Trips

When driving long distances, it's inevitable you're going to need to stop to go to the bathroom, and in my travels I've noticed there are two types of public restrooms.

The ones you hold your breath and get in and out of as fast as possible, and then there is the type you'll find here in Montana, according to a recently published national survey.

Clean Restrooms Matter On Montana Road Trips

Finding a clean restroom when taking a road trip, especially if you've got a young family, is a lifesaver in more ways than one.

More than just a place to relieve yourself, it's also a chance to get out, stretch your legs, recharge your batteries, and grab some fresh air or fresh snacks.

How The Best Public Restrooms Are Ranked

Those participating in the research were asked to rank restrooms based on cleanliness, upkeep, comfort, and atmosphere, along with their attitude towards the rest stop. Meaning, was it more "We have to stop soon, or I'll explode" or "I could stay here for a couple hours"?

In the end the public restroom that was deemed the best in Montana was the Sweetgrass Rest Area on I-15 near the border with Canada.

I can see why when looking at pictures online. It's a really nice, well-lit spot, which looks safe for both families and solo travelers to stretch their legs, take a quick break, and just breathe in that Big Sky air.

LOOK INSIDE The 'World's Largest Truck Stop'

Recently, my wife and I took a road trip from Sioux Falls to Saginaw, Michigan.

Why would we drive 15 hours to Saginaw? My wife has family there, plus we were going to see a concert in Detroit, but the show was canceled.

Since we already had the time off from work so we decided to spend a few days in that 'tourist destination' known as Saginaw. Sure, it's not Vegas or Florida, but it was nice to get out of town for a few days.

We drove down Interstate 29 to the Omaha area and picked up Interstate 80 then headed east across Iowa. Just to the west of the Quad Cities sits Iowa 80, the self-proclaimed 'World's Largest Truck Stop'.
