We've talked about how we are writing more lately here at the Central Montana Radio Network, and what that entails is thinking of an idea, going out and looking for information and seeing if you can make a story out of that idea. Sometimes when researching your idea, you'll find a tidbit of information that leads to another story. That is exactly what happened when I was finding information on another story I just published.

In finding information about these counties I learned a neat little trivia fact that you can use to impress your friends from out of state.

There are 13 cities in Montana who share the same name as a county in Montana. That isn't what makes them unique, no what makes them unique is that they aren't in the same county they share their name with.

I could see one or two but 13 is quite a few cities to be outside of the county they share a name with. Well there is one that is spelled slightly different, that's the Choteau and Chouteau County. They were both named after the same person though, Pierre Chouteau Jr.

Which leads me to another little trivia fact, Pierre Choteau Jr., also had Pierre, South Dakota, the state capital named after him. He also built Fort Pierre, which they named after him. Then they just went and named the town after him as well. I grew up in South Dakota, and how I never put two and two together on that one is beyond me.  Well, math was always a weak point for me I guess.
